Hi friends and dear readers of our blog! We have a few tidbits of newsworthy information for y’allz. Some is good and some is not so good.
The good:
≠ I just did my first solo shows in upstate NY and it was really fun. Thanks to Golden Ghost for having me tag along, and hosting me at her amazing family’s home. They had a basketball net and I rocked a few games of twenty-one while I was there. If you haven’t been, you should visit Endicott, it’s a pretty rad town with some sweet antique shops. Looking forward to going there with the whole band in the future.
≠ Our new video for “If I Were A Tree” is almost complete! It should be out shortly after the vinyl is released. We’re pretty excited to share it, and you should be excited to see it. We had a lot of awesome people help out, it was a beautiful sunny day in the park AND it was shot by the super talented Colin Medley and Jared Raab. We promise, it won’t disappoint.
≠ Coach House Books has started a podcast series on their website, and a couple of our songs are featured on the very first one! You can go download the whole podcast here: http://www.chbooks.com/home
≠ FCL will be featured on an upcoming episode of The Show on CMT – I believe the air date is November 13, but we’ll update you via our Twitter to remind you.
≠ We have new T-SHIRTS that are super soft and really comfy. They’re now available in the store and also available in Toronto at Criminal Records on Queen St. West!
≠ And lastly, our favourite website and internet radio station, CBC Radio 3, is running their annual Bucky Awards. It’s like the fan-choice awards for Canada… There are lots of categories and a lot of talented people up for awards, including your good pal me (Kat!). I’m nominated for Sexiest Musician (I know, what?!?!), and that is hard enough for me to type without blushing. Head over to Radio 3 to vote, it’s open until Midnight PST on November 8.
Oh yes, and the not so good:
≠ Our new 7″ vinyl, Phodilus and Tyto, is going to be a little bit delayed. It was supposed to be ready to go this Tuesday, November 10…but alas, it is taking a little longer to pop out of the factory. We will keep you updated on the expected date (hopefully really soon) and we thank you in advance for your amazing patience and support. Those who pre-ordered, you will still get your bonus tracks on the originally scheduled day. AND we’ll start streaming the vinyl on our Myspace as of Tuesday, November 10, just to get you pumped!
stay cool,
Kat
Balloon Boy!

Oh this world we live in. Anyone that was in North America the last 24 hours I’m sure heard of the ridiculous story of the boy who was thought to be traipsing across the sky in a UFO style weather balloon. Turns out he was in the attic the whole time.. strange one indeed. So although we used a van (and not a hot air balloon) to get there, playing Pop Montreal was a blast. It was a full house, so we’d like to apologise if you couldn’t get in. We’re heading off next week to go to another one of our favourite cities, Halifax! It’s always such a beautiful sight in the autumn, as the colours peek out from the tops of trees and the wind gets crisp.
We get our test presses for our vinyl today! We’re excited to sit around the record player and hear ourselves for the first time on wax. You can still pre-order the vinyl and get some bonus treats until November 3… a week before it comes out. Then you’ll be able to buy either the record or the mp3 download package as of November 10. Isn’t that so very exciting?
We’re also about 50% done writing the songs for the next record. I think we have about six on the go now. We’ll be recording demos of them soon and then we’re heading into the studio on December 27 to layyyy down the sweetness.
Tell yr friends!

Pre Order our new 7″!!
September 22, 2009 at 5:49 am | In forest city lovers, news | 1 CommentTags: 7", merch, phodilus and tyto, play the triangle
We’re putting out a new single on November 10 and we’re pretty excited about it. We are releasing two new songs, “Phodilus and Tyto” and “If I Were A Tree” on a limited edition (only 300) green marbled vinyl! This will be a preview of what will be coming out on our next full length album, slated for a 2010 release on Out of This Spark.
You can now pre-order it from Play the Triangle and you get a bunch of bonuses with it (mp3s, artwork, poster, pins) and it’s only a limited time! Also, we put together a brand new MERCH page where you can check everything out a bit more clearly now. I’m trying to move the site more and more away from just the WordPress format, so keep an eye out for changes in the coming months.
We also shot a video for the B side of the record and that is due out around the same time as the vinyl. Fun times!!

RECORDING BLOG #006
September 13, 2009 at 5:20 pm | In news, recording | 2 CommentsTags: beaver valley, cows, if i were a tree, phodilus and tyto, recording

We hung out with cows the whole time.
Once again, no recording, just writing. But why go to the trouble to change the sequential titles? Last week most of the band hunkered down in Beaver Valley for a few days to work on some existing song ideas and to hammer out some new ones. It was an extremely productive endevour and we have come out with three new songs on the go and three pretty solid ideas. It felt pretty amazing to drop all responsibilities and focus soley on our music for our duration there. If we could go away and do that once a week we would be on fire. Alas, some of us have day jobs :P
Our two new songs are being mastered this week and the new single “Phodilus and Tyto” (with a B side of “If I were a Tree”) should be available for pre-order shortly. If all goes well, we’re looking at a November release. I’m working on the artwork and we’re getting pretty excited to share our new material. We shot a video for “If I Were A Tree” this past weekend and that was a really fun day. Thanks to all our friends who came out and helped out and to our small, but powerful, crew. The video should come out around the same time as the single is available, about a month or so from now.
Some exciting things on the way! We’re headed to Pop Montreal again, and super pumped to be going to Halifax soon (yay!) Thank you again x 1000 for all your continued support, we really appreciated that people get excited about we’re doing as much as we do.

YO BIG APPLE, S’UP!
September 6, 2009 at 6:16 pm | In news | 2 CommentsTags: emily wells, josh solar, new york, phosphorescent, ps1, tune yards, williamsburg

Hello from New York! I have been hanging here for about a week now… and the last few days have especially renewed my sense of admiration for this city. So many amazing things going on all the time. Last week I played a solo show with some international friends and got to meet some really rad people. Shout outs to the Brooklyn Tea Party and everyone who housed us. On Friday night I went and saw Emily Wells play (she is awesome check her out) and on Saturday night slid on over to the Williamsburg Music Hall to catch the Tune Yards (fronted by, to my surprise, Merril from Sister Suvi) and Phosphorescent.
Today I am going to go check out the new PS1 Contemporary Art Centre (in conjunction with the MoMa) in Queens, there is a Jonathan Horowitz exhibition on… you should go see!

Here are a couple photos from the show last week – check out Josh Solar’s blog for more of his photography (came all the way from Kansas!)
