Bio:
In the heart of Canada’s largest city, Forest City Lovers — Kat Burns (vocals/guitar/piano), Kyle Donnelly (bass/guitar/vocals), Mika Posen (violin/piano/vocals) and Christian Ingelevics — strive to tame the urban wilderness and add some melody to the chaos.
Forest City Lovers burst onto Toronto’s music scene in 2006 as a pseudo solo project by young songwriter Kat Burns. The independent release of the 2006 album, The Sun and the Wind solidified Burns’ place in the Toronto music scene and was received well by critics. Released independently and joined on record and live by some talented friends (James Bunton, Andrew Kinoshita of Ohbijou, Andy Magoffin of Two Minute Miracles, Jenny Mitchell of Barmitzvah Brothers), the Sun and the Wind was a breath of fresh air and exposed the talent of the emerging songwriter. Chart called the record “delightfully engaging” while Exclaim proclaimed Burns “enigmatic and subtly inventive.”
While touring in support of this debut record, Forest City Lovers developed into a cohesive and complete unit and became “a band”. With a renewed sense of excitement and dynamics, thanks to Mika Posen’s string arrangements and a tight rhythm section, the band headed back in the studio to record twelve new songs. With the help of some dear friends, including James Bunton and Heather Kirby (Ohbijou), the band hunkered down for nine-months at Kirby’s Dreamland, in Toronto, with a handful of new material to work on.
These sessions birthed Haunting Moon Sinking which straddles the line between heartbreakingly beautiful and intimately powerful. Exploring themes of love and life with lush and poignant orchestration, Haunting Moon Sinking grows with every listen. With many Toronto talents filling out chorused vocals and swelling string arrangements, Haunting Moon Sinking steps into a natural progression from the band’s previous effort.
The songs of Forest City Lovers are catchy, yet fragile, and hope to melt your heart, or at least make it beat.

The music I likes, but it does seem ironic you’ve played to almost everywhere in Ontario with the obvious exception of the 350,000 plus faithful in The Forest City itself. And you call yourself Forest City Lovers? Where’s the love? If this carries on maybe you should change your name to the “Puck’s Farm in Schomberg Lovers”.
